As an influential creative director, Markus Mahren has worked over the past 20 years with some of the most iconic creatives of our time. Working closely with names such as Peter Lindbergh and Mario Testino, he has played a key role in helping push the boundaries of contemporary aesthetics for institutions of luxury culture such as Hugo Boss and Escada.

Markus Mahren’s work life often requires living between time zones, different nations and different cultures. The experience has exposed him to some of the vast contradictions between illusion and reality. This insight gained has formed an attitude that he brings to his job but has also resonated strongly with his deep interest in spirituality.

Markus Mahren has now created his own photographic body of work. Fundamental themes such as life, death, belief and hope run through the new work. The works represent a personal response, now translated and re-presented by the duality of his professional and personal experience.

„What i am showing today is a very personal and pure look at my soul, a manifest of who i really am.“ - Markus Mahren

DEVIANT INSTINCT HITS TOP 10 BERLIN SHOWS AT SAATCHI ONLINE

via Saatchi Online Magazine
kevin-earl-taylor

In these days Ana Finel Honigman, contributor of the Saatchi Online Magazine, was unveiling her TOP 10 list of Berlin shows in autumn of 2011. Among current exhibitions like “Once Upon a Time: Fantastic Narratives in Contemporary Video” at Deutsche Guggenheim, our ongoing Solo Exhibition of the San Francisco based artist Kevin Earl Taylor was highly recommended.

In Ana Finel Honigmans words: “Few artists successfully match to Walton Ford’s mastery. Kevin Earl Taylor is a rare peer to Ford’s technical and conceptual process. Both artists share an impeccable ability to render animals with astute emotional and narrative complexity thereby evoking our full empathy for them. Taylor’s particular talent is creating expressive phantasmagorical exchanges between unrelated species. His gorgeous high-varnish oil-paintings represent a utopia beyond one where lions lay with lambs. In his wonderful world, even octopuses cuddle with buffalo and jelly-fish tickle Siamese cats…”

Opening: 6th September 7pm
Hours: 7th September - 15th October 2011, Tue – Sat 12 – 6pm
Location: Circleculture Gallery

Kevin Earl Taylorʼ s paintings have a symbiotic theme showing organisms, animals, and humans all coexisting. Whether parasitic or beneficial, the common thread behind his oil paintings is that these strange creatures all exist together - similar to our own reality. His fascination with animals, environment, and human relations has led him to turn animals into humans in an anthropomorphic figure. The collective consciousness that makes us aware of other beings on the planet is incorporated in his paintings to tell a story of life, and this thing we call death. Taylorʼ s abstract narratives are dream oriented in a playful, sometimes renaissance oriented painting style. With humor, harmony, morphology, genealogy, symbiosis, and just not taking himself too seriously, Kevin Earl Taylor attempts to expose the animal within.

Kevin Earl Taylor was born in 1972 in Charleston, SC. In 1995, he received a B.F.A. from The Savannah College of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited and published throughout the US, as well as internationally. Though primarily an oil painter, he also explores time based art forms such as sound and video. The artist works and lives in San Francisco, California. Read more »
